JOINT STATEMENT

VALE ARTHUR LEGGETT OAM

Tuesday 8 April 2025

The Coalition is deeply saddened to hear about the passing of Western Australia’s oldest surviving World War II veteran, Arthur Leggett OAM.

Mr Leggett passed away at the age of 106, surrounded by loved ones.

Mr Leggett bravely served in the battles of Bardia and Tobruk, before spending four years as a prisoner of war after being captured during the Battle of Crete in 1941.

Despite this, Mr Leggett used his experience to educate people about war and support the ex-POW community, including as President of the Ex-Prisoners of War Association WA.

We are deeply grateful for Mr Leggett’s service and convey our deepest sympathies to Mr Leggett’s friends and family.
