About Barnaby

Barnaby Joyce drew national headlines in 2013 when he announced his intention to resign from The Senate and return to the region of his birth to contest the Federal Seat of New England as The Nationals candidate.

Three times Deputy Prime Minister of Australia, from 2016 to 2017, 2017 - 2018, and from 2021 - 2022. Mr Joyce has a career spaning over 20 years serving Australia as a Federal Member of Parliament. 

Mr Joyce is the only Member of Parliament that has served in the Australian Senate (elect in 2004) successfully moving into a House of Representatives seat (elect in 2013), securing the seat of New England and retaining the seat through to the 2025 election with a 17.2% two party preferred margin. 

Barnaby has served as the Minister for Agriculture (2013 - 2015), Minister for Agriculture and Water Resources (2015 - 2017), Minister for Resources and Northern Australia (2017), Minister for Infrastructure and Transport (2017 - 2018) and Shadow Minister for Veteran Affairs (2022 - 2025).  

 much-reported decisions to cross the floor 28 times during his career made him both hero and villain but overwhelmingly respected by his constituency as a conviction politician.  Barnaby has also become one of the most quoted politicians in Australia.

 

Barnaby's early career was as a small business accountant based in St George.
