UNEMPLOYMENT RATE FALLS TO JUST 3.9%

19 May 2022

Member for New England and Deputy Prime Minister, Barnaby Joyce says, the fall in the unemployment rate to just 3.9% validates the Coalition’s handling of the economy.

“This is the lowest unemployment rate since 1974,” Mr Joyce said.

“Now is not the time to risk it all by changing the Government

“A 3.4% unemployment rate is an outstanding result given the challenges posed by the global pandemic, drought, bushfires and floods,” Mr Joyce said.

“At one stage, Treasury had feared an unemployment rate of 15%!

“However, the Liberals and Nationals management of the economy through one of the toughest economic periods in our history, has Australia at the forefront of economic recovery.

“Australia’s economy has recovered faster and stronger than the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Germany, France, Italy and Japan.

“There are 2 million more Australians in work than when the Coalition came to government and there are more women in work than ever before.

“Further, the national accounts measure of wages growth is expected to increase by 5 percent over the year to June.

“As a result, our economy is among the best in the world. Growth is higher, unemployment lower and wages are strengthening.

“Our economic plan is working – now is not the time for change,” Mr Joyce said.
