Tingha RSL Sub-Branch will receive $3,850 to build new war memorial walls under the Federal Government’s Saluting Their Service grants program which recognises the New England’s military service history.
Member for New England, Barnaby Joyce, welcomed the ongoing community interest in recognising local service.
“A community’s military history, through those who have served or continue to serve, is part of its identity,” Mr Joyce said.
“The New England has a rich history of military service and that legacy continues today with many current members of the Australian Defence Force calling our region home.
“By involving community groups, such as our ex-service organisations, in commemorations we can ensure this history is never forgotten, and these grants help to achieve this.”
The funding will support construction of two new memorial walls at the Tingha War Memorial to house 57 relocated plaques commemorating the service and sacrifice of local service personnel.
Minister for Veterans’ Affairs Darren Chester said the funding would provide a boost to the region’s efforts, as they prepare for Anzac Day commemorations.
“Australia has a proud history of remembering those who have served our nation, their families and those who wear the military uniform today,” Mr Chester said.
“I congratulate Tingha on its successful application to carry on this proud legacy of remembrance.
“With commemorations approaching for the end of the Second World War, this is also an opportunity for organisations to apply for the next grant funding round to mark this important commemorative anniversary.”
You can submit your application now for the next funding round, which closes on 31 March 2020. To apply or find out more visit the Saluting Their Service Commemoration Program page on the Community Grants Hub.
