Member for New England and Shadow Minister for Veterans’ Affairs today toured the Tamworth Classic Fire Engine Clubs facilities at the Tamworth Showgrounds, after the Former Coalition Government provided a $16,600 grant to the club under the Stronger Communities Program.
Mr Joyce said supporting local clubs like this is so important for regional communities.
“You just have to look at the fantastic work the club has done on these fire engines, restoring some almost 100 years old to their former glory.”
“Club’s like this bring people together of all ages and puts a smile on their faces, I’m so proud to be able to support such a fantastic club and I wish them all the very best in the future,” Mr Joyce said.
Club president Barry Owen thanked Mr Joyce for assisting the club and said without the Stronger Communities program their latest restoration would still just be a work in progress.
“We have members down here working on these trucks almost every day of the week, from retired firefighters to young kids we’re all committed to seeing these projects through.”
“This assistance from the Federal Government means we can keep doing what we love and hopefully brighten up the city with our work.
“I would also like to thank Mayor Russell Webb and the Tamworth Regional Council for their ongoing support,” Mr Owen said.
The club is open at the Showgrounds for members of the public every Saturday after from 2:00 to 5:00.
