Young people in the New England Electorate invited to enter in Young Endeavour ballot

FEDERAL Member for New England, Barnaby Joyce is inviting young people within the Electorate to submit an entry in a ballot to take part in a challenging youth development voyage on the tall ship STS Young Endeavour.

 

“I am pleased to advise the ballot to select young Australians aged 16 to 23 years for the series of voyages programmed between January and June, 2016 is now open,” Mr Joyce said.

 

He said participants for the Young Endeavour Youth Scheme will be selected in an online ballot which closes on 5 October 2015.

 

The 2016 program will see the tall ship sail from Fremantle on 12 January 2016 and visit Esperance, Adelaide, Hobart and Melbourne before returning to Sydney. After a short break the Young Endeavour will sail north to Newcastle, Brisbane and Gladstone.

 

While on-board the ship, youth crew complete the Young Endeavour Youth Development Program, an internationally recognised program which aims to increase self-awareness, build self-confidence and develop teamwork, communication and leadership skills. No prior sailing experience is required as the youth crew are supervised and supported by Royal Australian Navy crew.

 

Mr Joyce said more than 12,000 young Australians have voyaged on the Young Endeavour over the last 25 years.

 

“This is an experience of a lifetime and one that will stay with them forever,” he said.
