Deputy Prime Minister and Member for New England, Barnaby Joyce, helped consolidate links between the New England and our Asian neighbours at a special international event on Friday.

Mr Joyce joined the Jeju Education Governor from South Korea as well with teachers and students from Farrer Memorial Agricultural High School for a videoconference demonstration as part of the Asia ConneXions program.

Farrer is one of 22 New England schools participating in the program, run in partnership with the University of New England, to connect South Korean and Japanese schools using the NSW Connected Classrooms videoconferencing facility.

“This program is helping our schools develop new relationships with our near neighbours in Asia,” Mr Joyce said.

“It’s expanding the minds of our kids, some who will grow up to be future leaders here in the New England.

“We’ve already seen more 20 schools take part in Asia ConneXions and I congratulate Farrer on joining the program.”

The year 8 Farrer students established a videoconference with a Jeju school in South Korea.

Schools from Armidale, Glen Innes, Guyra, Inverell, Bendemeer, Black Mountain, Currabubula, Dungowan, Uralla and Walcha have also participated in the program.
