Scholarships for regional students in the New England

08 Oct 2018

Member for New England, Barnaby Joyce, has encouraged local students to apply for a Government-funded scholarship to study a science, technology, engineering or mathematics (STEM) course.

Mr Joyce said applications were now open for the $24 million Rural and Regional Enterprise Scholarships program.

“Scholarships of up to $18,000 are available to help students in the New England with the costs of studying STEM at university or a vocational education and training institution,” Mr Joyce said.

“One of these scholarships could help a promising student in Tamworth, or Armidale, Scone Inverell, realise their potential and get a STEM education that will open a world of future possibilities.

“New guidelines will also make it easier for drought-affected students to apply, including families receiving the Farm Household Allowance.

“I encourage every student in the New England who wants to study STEM to apply for the program.

“More than 1,200 rural, regional and remote students will receive support through the program.”

The scholarships may also include internships to help students develop their professional experience and ensure they’re job-ready.

Applications close on Friday 14 December 2018.
