Regional boost for Inverell and Tenterfield under Building Better Regions Fund

04 Jul 2018

Communities in Inverell and Tenterfield are set to receive a boost following the announcement of two successful projects under the Building Better Regions Fund – Community Investment stream.

Federal Member for New England Barnaby Joyce said the community-based projects were a positive investment in the region’s future.

“This is fantastic news for the New England electorate, with two projects receiving more than $65,000 in Federal Government assistance including $35,600 for Inverell Shire Council to engage an independent consultant to develop a Cultural and Arts Strategic Plan,” Mr Joyce said.

“We’re also announcing $30,000 for Tenterfield Chamber of Tourism Industry & Business to help deliver the annual Peter Allen Festival which celebrates the life, music and influence of Mr Allen in the Australian Music Industry.

“These two projects will help drive economic growth and transform communities across the northern reaches of the New England Electorate, ensuring our region remains resilient and prosperous into the future and works hand in glove with the many more community projects we’re supporting like the new kitchen for Tenterfield Meals on Wheels and new rodeo yards at Tenterfield Showground,” Mr Joyce added.

Minister for Regional Development, Territories and Local Government John McVeigh said the Building Better Regions Fund continues to deliver major benefits for rural, regional and remote communities throughout Australia.

“The Community Investment stream of the Building Better Regions Fund is another part of our plan for regional Australia. It supports community activities from expanded local events and strategic planning to improving leadership and capability,” Dr McVeigh said.

“Under round two, the Coalition Government is investing more than $4 million in over 100 Community Investment stream projects across Australia valued at over $7.3 million.

“This is expected to create more than 4,000 jobs which will beef up local economies.”

Dr McVeigh said the Coalition Government invested an additional $200 million in the 2018-19 Federal Budget to deliver another round of the Building Better Regions Fund.

“This is another great outcome delivered for regional Australia. The Coalition has a plan to deliver a stronger economy and more jobs and we are focused on getting it done.”

Successful projects for round two of the Infrastructure stream will be announced in the near future.
