New shed protects Tenterfield kids’ play equipment from the elements

The Deputy Prime Minister and Member for New England, Barnaby Joyce, has welcomed the construction of a new shed at the Tenterfield Child Care Centre, 12 months after the organisation was granted funding under the Federal Government’s Stronger Communities Programme (SCP).

The Tenterfield Child Care Centre applied for just under $6,000 to build the new storage shed to house playground equipment and other items.

Centre Director, Nicole Jones, said the previous shed, which was built many years ago, was dilapidated and let the water in.

“Some of our equipment was ruined because of holes in the old shed.  Now we have a brand new, much larger shed to house our valuable equipment.  It’s a wonderful asset for our Centre both now and into the future,” Ms Foster said.

Mr Joyce said the programme’s aim was to fund small capital projects which deliver social benefits, improve local community participation, cohesion and contribute to vibrant and viable communities.

“The Programme was targeted at local government and incorporated not-for-profit organisations and grants of between $5,000 and up to a maximum of $20,000 were made available,” Mr Joyce said.

“I’m pleased to say that the recent 2017/2018 Budget committed a further $22.5 million for a third round of the Programme.  Applications are expected to open later this year.”
