Deputy Prime Minister, Minister for Agriculture and Water Resources and Member for New England, Barnaby Joyce, has encouraged people in the New England Electorate to come together to celebrate the region’s cultural diversity on Harmony Day – 21 March, 2017.
Mr Joyce said New England was made up of people from many backgrounds.
“We are proud to celebrate our rich diversity in the New England community. Harmony Day is a great opportunity to stop and think about how we can continue to foster a sense of belonging for everyone. We have a proud history of welcoming people from all over the world and our community is stronger because of it,” Mr Joyce said.
There are many ways people can celebrate Harmony Day and the benefits of our cultural diversity (see planned events list below).
“I want to encourage individuals and community groups to think about how they can join in Harmony Day celebrations, whether that’s holding an event or learning more about the backgrounds of those in our community,” Mr Joyce said.
“Encourage your school, university, sporting club or workplace to share the benefits of celebrating how our multicultural community contributes to our shared future.”
