FEDERAL Member for New England, Barnaby Joyce said businesses in the Electorate will get the opportunity to have a say on the direction of the Australian Government’s new Food and Agribusiness Industry Growth Centre, with public consultation sessions being held in Sydney on Monday and Tuesday, 21 and 22 April.
The $188.5 million Industry Growth Centres are the centrepiece of the Government’s new industry direction and part of the Industry Innovation and Competitiveness Agenda.
“The Industry Growth Centres will bring industry, research and Government together to develop practical pathways to grow their sectors, boost productivity, reduce the regulatory burden and create jobs,” Mr Joyce said.
“Experienced food industry executive Peter Schutz, who chairs the Food and Agribusiness Growth Centre, is holding consultations nationwide with businesses, researchers and food producers to develop a proposal for the centre’s activities.”
Mr Joyce said Mr Schutz is looking to speak to New England Electorate business people who are interested in strengthening the future of Australia’s growing food and agribusinesses.
“He is seeking local input on industry issues including the best ways to encourage collaboration and new product commercialisation, enhancing workforce skills and reducing red tape.
“The consultations will also focus on ways to boost export performance by improving the ability of businesses to engage in international markets and global supply chains,” Mr Joyce said.
“I encourage local business leaders to sign up for the consultation.”
Five Industry Growth Centres will be established by the end of the year in areas where Australia has a competitive advantage: Food and Agribusiness; Advanced Manufacturing; Medical Technologies and Pharmaceuticals; Mining Equipment, Technology and Services; and Oil, Gas and Energy Resources.
CSIRO Sydney will host a consultation session between 3pm and 5pm on Monday, April 21 at 11 Julius Avenue, North Ryde, while AusIndustry at level 5, 341 George St, Sydney will host a session between 9am and 11am on Tuesday, 22 April.
