NBN rollout now 96% complete in the New England

05 Feb 2020

More residents in New England can now access fast, reliable broadband over the National Broadband Network (NBN) following the switch-on of services in Glen Innes and Werris Creek.

Member for New England, Barnaby Joyce, said the milestone means more local residents and businesses will be able to take advantage of the benefits of fast broadband such as working from home and access to online education and entertainment services.

“The Electorate of New England is 96 per cent complete with nearly 80,000 premises now able to access services over the NBN.

“Over the coming months, an additional 3,400 premises in Glen Innes and Werris Creek will be able to access the fixed line network, which will not only help people stay better connected to friends and family near and far, but also promote better business outcomes.

“There are a range of NBN plans available through retail service providers. When the NBN becomes available at your home or business, I encourage you to consider the number of internet connected devices people in your home typically use at the same time, then speak to a provider to find a plan that best suits your needs.”

Minister for Communications, Cyber Safety and the Arts, the Hon Paul Fletcher MP, said the NBN is continuing to roll out across the nation with between 30,000 and 40,000 new premises connecting to the NBN each week.

“The NBN is lifting the digital capability of Australia, and the Morrison Government wants to see as many Australians as possible having the benefit of fast, reliable broadband services,” Minister Fletcher said.

“As the network has rolled out, it has brought with it significant improvements in speed and data allowances, and all the while prices have been steadily dropping.”

More than 6.5 million homes and businesses across Australia now have an active NBN connection and are enjoying the benefits of fast broadband.
