FEDERAL Member for New England, Barnaby Joyce said Expressions of Interest are being sought from business and community leaders to join the Regional Development Australia (RDA) Northern Inland committee.
Mr Joyce said RDA committees are part of a national network, made up of local leaders who assist in the economic development of their region, volunteering their time and energy to develop solutions to local issues.
“Expressions of Interest are being sought from community-minded individuals to join RDA Northern Inland as advocates who can make a difference to their region,” he said.
“We need people with skills, experience and knowledge to strengthen networks with the business community, education sector, local industry, and all levels of government, to help drive regional economic development.
“RDA committees provide advice on critical issues affecting economic development in their region and enhance local awareness of Australian Government programmes.
Newly appointed RDA Northern Inland Chair Russell Stewart said Expressions of Interest were being sought for the positions of Deputy Chair as well as for Committee Members who will contribute to regional plans that focus on increasing investment, improving infrastructure and boosting business activity.
“This is a great opportunity for people within the region who care about economic development and jobs to step forward and commit to making big decisions about our future,” Mr Stewart said.
“Small businesses are the backbone of our regional economy so we are seeking innovative people with solid hands-on business experience.
“The Northern Inland is a large and diverse region and potential committee members will therefore need a good knowledge of the entire region,” he said.
Mr Joyce said the RDA committee also helps community stakeholders develop project proposals and provide advice on appropriate public and/or private funding sources, including the Australian Government’s $1 billion National Stronger Regions Fund.
“Community members with commitment, strong leadership skills and a vision for the New England Electorate are encouraged to submit an Expressions of Interest by Tuesday, 7 April 2015,” he said.
