FEDERAL Member for New England and Minister for Agriculture, Barnaby Joyce said 21 projects throughout the New England Electorate will enjoy a share of more $364,000 under the Australian Government’s National Landcare Programme.
He praised the work of community groups in the Inverell district including the Nullamanna Landcare Group which will receive $19,450 to assist in reducing threat to biodiversity at Nullamanna while the Bukkulla Landcare Group will receive $19,900 to assist with tree planting for shade, shelter and sanctuary.
The Inverell Community garden has been allocated $18,740 to assist with the learning of sustainable agriculture at the Inverell Community Garden while the South West Inverell Landcare Group will receive $19,850 for improving water quality and protecting the Myall Creek.
Mr Joyce and Federal Environment Minister, Greg Hunt announced the successful projects that will share in the $5 million of funding under the 25th Anniversary Landcare Grants.
“We all have a part to play in caring for the land. These projects are one way we can ensure that our agricultural practices are sustainable and our natural environment is healthy for future generations,” he said.
“It’s great to see so many Australians getting involved in projects to protect and restore their local environment.
“These grants are focused on engaging the community to deliver local projects which will have lasting benefits for the environment and productive agricultural landscapes,” he said.
