The Federal Government has provided $5,000to Tenterfield Shire Council to develop a fold out brochure and map for Tooloom and Koreelah National Parks north of Tenterfield to help protect, conserve and raise awareness of the parks that are part of the state’s National Heritage listed Gondwana Rainforests, Deputy Prime Minister and Member for New England, Barnaby Joyce, said today.

The funding is part of the 2016-17 rounds of the $1.57 million Protecting National Historic Sites and Community Heritage and Icons Grants awarded to 49 projects managed by community groups, individuals and local governments as well as National Heritage List place site owners and managers.

“It is great to see that Tooloom and Koreeelah National Parks will receive this funding to support their promotion as an important part of our National Heritage listed Gondwana Rainforests,” Mr Joyce said.

“Australia’s National Heritage List is the highest heritage recognition by the Government and we can be deservedly proud of our community’s role in safeguarding such an important part of our nation’s history and heritage.

“By working together we can help protect the places that are important to our past, present and future.”

The National Heritage List now comprises 110 places of outstanding natural, historic and Indigenous significance to Australia. These places define who we are, tell the story of our country’s past, reflect our evolving heritage and where we are going, and showcase our achievements and natural environment.

The Protecting National Historic Sites program helps ensure Australia’s nationally significant historic heritage places are protected and maintained for future generations. The Community Heritage and Icons Grants program funds a range of interpretation, communication and promotion activities that promote community participation and awareness of places listed on Australia’s National Heritage List.
