Deputy Prime Minister and Member for New England, Barnaby Joyce, has today paid tribute to former Armidale resident, Gabrielle Maina.
The teacher, who was a graduate of the University of New England, was shot and killed in Nairobi, Kenya, during an apparent armed robbery.
“I extend my sincere condolences to Ms Maina’s family,” Mr Joyce said.
“It is a tragic situation and one no family should have to bear.
“She was an inspiration to many, and by all accounts, left a lasting impression on fellow students and staff here in the New England.
“Gabrielle will be dearly missed by her family, friends and all who knew her.”
