FEDERAL Member for New England, Barnaby Joyce said the launch of the Community Heritage and Icons Grants programme earlier this month will offer funding opportunities between $2,500 and $10,000.
“This programme gives community groups across Australia the opportunity to promote the exceptional places in their locality that are located in the National Heritage list,” Mr Joyce said.
He said the grants, which can range from $2,500 to $10,000 can support activities as diverse as holding an open day, purchasing and erecting commemorative plaques, or producing information brochures.
“The exact nature of the activity can be determined by the community as long as its delivery supports engagement with these unique places,” he said.
Mr Joyce urged the community to apply for funding under the programme, which would help to encourage a broader appreciation and awareness of places of shared heritage within the New England Electorate.
“Applications close on Thursday, 5 March at 2pm and further details on the grants and how to apply are on the Department of Environment website,” he said.
