21 Dec 2018

Senior Australians living in the New England will benefit from more than $1.5 million in upgrades to four local residential aged care homes.

The funding will enable extensions, refurbishments and improvements at Barraba, Bundarra, Tenterfield and Uralla, under the Liberal Nationals Government’s $40 million Aged Care Regional, Rural and Remote Infrastructure Grants scheme.

“This is a great festive season bonus, with these aged care homes set to receive the funding early in the New Year,” Mr Joyce said.

“It’s going to boost activity in local construction and employment, while delivering quality facilities for older residents living in the New England.

“This funding is part of our Government’s $5 billion aged care funding boost, announced in the 2018-19 Budget, this aged care infrastructure funding is dedicated to improving the quality and accessibility of aged care services in regional, rural and remote Australia.”

Barraba District Retirement Homes Association (Richardson House) $465,000: Bathroom renovation and bedroom refurbishment.
Bundarra’s Grace Munro Aged Care Centre $111,870: Renovation of 2 ensuite bathrooms, flooring in 3rd ensuite, air conditioning to all 11 residential rooms, concrete disability ramp
Tenterfield Care Centre $495,000: Upgrade and renovation of 33 bedrooms and ensuites.
Uralla Shire Council $500,000: Bathroom and toilet refurbishments for 23 not fit for purpose ensuites.

“Our Government shares this strong commitment to regional, rural and remote Australia and we understand that local aged care services face challenges their capital city counterparts do not.

“These upgrades will boost the productivity and sustainability of local aged care services, which play a critical role in our communities.”

Mr Joyce said the aged care sector would receive a further boost through the residential aged care capital grants through the Aged Care Approvals Round (ACAR) expected to be announced by April 2019.

“Thanks to our strong economic record, our Government has also just announced $101.9 million to lift the annual Viability Supplement paid to eligible regional aged care providers by 30 per cent,” Mr Joyce said.

“I thank all the organisations that submitted applications and look forward to seeing the benefits of this funding for our aged care services, senior Australians and communities in country Australia.”
