Barnaby Joyce says road safety grants support local initiatives

13 Aug 2014

FEDERAL Member for New England, Barnaby Joyce said a series of grants supporting local road safety initiatives will help to make safer roads throughout the New England electorate.

Mr Joyce said 10 grants of $10,000 will be offered by the National Roads and Motorists’ Association [NRMA] as part of their ongoing initiative to making roads safer for users in NSW.

He said to succeed in an application for one of the grants, schools, pre-schools, youth groups, governments and not-for-profit organisations will have to submit their ideas for road safety education programs and initiatives.

“A submission for this funding could begin with the simplest of ideas,” Mr Joyce said.

“All it needs is an individual or a group to take an idea further and if they are fortunate enough to receive a grant they could then make a difference to their community,” he said.

There are a number of criteria that must be addressed with each submission, including safer travels, inclusive journeys and connected communities.

The submission period ends on 30 September and submissions can be completed online that can be found by clicking on mynrma.com.au/grants Mr Joyce said.
