FEDERAL Member for New England, Barnaby Joyce has congratulated Armidale’s Dr Myfanwy Maple as being one of 30 highly talented women to receive a scholarship under the Board Diversity Scholarship Programme.

He said Dr Maple was one of 300 women from rural and remote areas of all states and territories applying for the first scholarship rounds being offered under the significantly expanded programme.

“These scholarship recipients are highly driven and qualified leaders in their own right and following the successful completion of the Company Director’s course, their current achievements, experiences and qualifications will ensure they are a genuine asset to any board,” Mr Joyce said.

Mr Joyce said the number of applications received in this first round of scholarship offers demonstrates unequivocally that there continues to be a vast pool of talented, qualified and eligible women actively seeking these opportunities.

He said the scholarship was jointly funded by the Australian Government and the Australian Institute of Company Directors.

The awards are part of the broader Board Diversity Scholarship program that allows high performing women across Australia to complete Company Directors’ highly-regarded educational courses. Recipients will also receive a free 12 month membership of Company Directors and a $2,000 contribution towards travel expenses.

More than 300 women from rural and remote areas in all states and territories applied for the program, with the 30 recipients selected based on their experience and leadership potential by a committee of representatives from Company Directors and the Australian Government’s Office for Women.
