NEW ENGLAND VETERANS SALUTED THROUGH GRANT PROJECT INITIATIVES

Councils from the New England have been successful in securing a total of $18,887 from the Australian Government’s Saluting Their Service Commemorative Grants Program.

The Gwydir Shire Council will receive $8,887 to assist the Bingara Historical Society with the purchase of lockable display cabinets for donated military memorabilia at the Bingara Museum.

The Upper Hunter Shire Council will receive $10,000 to assist with the purchase of large, customised fiberglass picnic tables with fiberglass umbrellas with the tables featuring poems to soldiers who have fought for our Nation.

The tables will be installed at the Murrurundi and District War Memorial Pool, the Scone Memorial Swimming Pool, and the Merriwa Swimming Pool, owned by the Upper Hunter Shire Council and leased by Community Aquatics.

Member for the New England, Barnaby Joyce said ‘I commend the Gwydir Shire Council, the Bingara Historical Society, Upper Hunter Shire Council and  Community Aquatics for developing these excellent memorial initiatives for us to be reminded of the selfless sacrifices our service men and women have made to protect our country and provide us with the free country we have. I wish these projects every success and look forward to seeing them completed.’
