Member for New England Barnaby Joyce has urged prospective holidaymakers to choose local destinations for their next getaway or family trip in support of homegrown tourism jobs and businesses.
The call-to-holiday follows the Federal Government’s $5 million ‘Holiday Here’ advertising blitz campaign across national advertising, TV and event sponsorships to encourage Australians to book a holiday in Australia this year.
“I want the good people of New England to take a break this year at one of our many local holiday destinations to support jobs and businesses,” Mr Joyce said.
“It doesn’t matter if you book a holiday just down the road or on the other side of the country, you’ll be supporting Australian businesses and workers.”
The Government’s advertising blitz will help drive Australians to book domestic holidays and give our tourism industry a much-needed boost. It’s part of Tourism Australia’s ‘Holiday Here This Year’ campaign for 2021.
The week-long campaign has featured Australian destinations, tourism products and experiences from every state and territory in national advertising, TV program and event sponsorships.
“Our tourism industry is so important because it supports more than 666,000 local jobs and every dollar spent on an Australian holiday this year will help our tourism sector,” Mr Joyce said.
“When you do book your holiday this year, go to one of our local travel agents in the New England to help support them because they’re also doing it tough because of COVID-19.”
