The $9.534 million dual lane five-leg Country Road Roundabout is now complete and open to traffic, marking the end of a significant undertaking which began in July 2020.
One of several major projects driving the development of the Tamworth Global Gateway Park, the $9.534 million Country Road Roundabout is a critical piece of infrastructure, creating access points between the Oxley Highway and extended heavy vehicle network, Tamworth Regional Airport, new Tamworth Global Gateway Park, Intermodal Freight Facility and Hunter Land’s Tamworth Business Park.
Final works on New Winton Road and landscaping at the roundabout will be completed over the coming weeks.
Located at the intersection of the Oxley Highway and Country Road in Westdale, the new Country Road Roundabout will be dual-lane with five exits, including Gunnedah-bound and Tamworth-bound stretches of the Oxley Highway, Country Road, New Winton Road realignment and direct access to the Tamworth Global Gateway Park.
Federal Member for New England Barnaby Joyce said the completed roundabout will deliver economic benefits through improved road freight access.
“It will enable safe and efficient road access to planned industrial developments north and south of the intersection as well as to Tamworth Regional Airport.”
“The upgrade of this intersection is critical to ensure the productivity, efficiency and safety of freight and general vehicles on our road network into the future,” Mr Joyce said.
Tamworth Region Mayor Russell Webb said it is exciting to see yet another major development infrastructure project at the Tamworth Global Gateway Park come to fruition.
“Connecting the Park with our transport network, the Country Road Roundabout will provide a key access route, meaning that businesses investing in the Tamworth Global Gateway Park will be able to move freight by road, air and by rail.”
“Without investing in key projects like this one, we wouldn’t be seeing the wonderful sales that we have been this year, with major corporations choosing Tamworth as their new base”, said Cr Webb.
The Country Road Roundabout has been funded with $4,532,000 from the Australian Government under its Heavy Vehicle Safety and Productivity Program, $4,056,800 from the NSW Government under its Restart NSW Growing Local Economies Fund and $954,200 from Tamworth Regional Council.
