A future Coalition Government will provide $11.5 million to Invictus Australia, so it can continue its important work supporting wounded, injured and ill veterans on their recovery journey through the power of sport, and prepare a compelling bid to host the 2031 Invictus Games.
Shadow Minister for Veterans’ Affairs, the Hon Barnaby Joyce MP, said as a not-for-profit organisation, Invictus Australia relies heavily on the support of Government, corporates, and local communities to deliver its programs in the community.
“Your mind is assisted by your health and your health is assisted by activity. The Invictus Games gives a goal to many to stay in shape and stay in contact,” Mr Joyce said.
Federal Member for Herbert, Phillip Thompson, welcomed the Coalition’s commitment, saying veterans and their families across Australia would benefit from increased access to local sports, community activities, and wellbeing programs through Invictus Australia’s expanding national network.
“This funding is about recognising the strength and resilience of our veterans, and supporting them through the power of sport and community connection,” Mr Thompson said.
“I’ve seen first-hand the incredible impact Invictus Australia has had in our local communities, supporting veterans and their families to recover, reintegrate and rehabilitate. Initiatives like the Adaptive Sports Program, the Invictus Games and the Warrior Games are a powerful force of good in our community, ensuring our veterans and Defence personnel can continue to take part in sport at a local, national and international level,” he said.
