Tamworth’s National Broadband Network rollout to kick off in December

03 Nov 2016

The Deputy Prime Minister and Member for New England, Barnaby Joyce has welcomed the news the National Broadband Network will begin its fibre to the node rollout in Tamworth from early December.

“Many people have been asking me about the nbn in Tamworth and I’d assured them work would begin in the first quarter of 2017,” Mr Joyce said.

“But we’ve been working closely with the nbn and now I can announce it is actually going to be earlier than that, it will start in the last part of this year, 2016.

“This means we’re actually delivering on our promise earlier than we said. The rollout of the nbn for Tamworth is going to happen sooner than we had planned.

Mr Joyce said the announcement of the beginning of this work was on the back of the work by nbn Co with its fixed wireless towers around Tamworth and the launch of two Sky Muster satellites in the last year or so.

“You can see the big, shiny fixed wireless towers wherever you go and the Sky Muster satellites are helping people out in the remote areas.

“It’s real delivery back to our area and it’s in real time,” Mr Joyce said.

nbn Co staff and contractors will begin next week ‘walking-out’ the designs of the planned rollout in three of the six designated areas in Tamworth. This will assist the contractors to anticipate and plan for any obstacles or hurdles that could interrupt the smooth roll-out work.

Contractors for nbn Co will also be meeting with Tamworth Regional Council staff in the next few days.
