Expanded radiation therapy services for Armidale

12 Apr 2019

Cancer treatment capacity in the New England will be expanded through new radiation therapy services in Armidale following further investment by the Liberal Nationals Government.

Member for New England, Barnaby Joyce, said Armidale is one of 13 locations to receive expanded services under the $63.4 million boost to radiation treatment in rural and regional areas. This in addition to the $6 billion a year the Liberal National Government provides for cancer treatments and services.

“This is crucial investment for people in the New England with high quality, comprehensive radiation oncology services to be available here on our doorstep,” Mr Joyce said.

“Just like the new MRI licence I helped secure for Tamworth, this expansion of radiation therapy in Armidale means people will no longer have to travel long distances for regular cancer treatment.

“Instead they can have their treatment locally with the all the financial and social benefits that entails such as reduced travel costs and the added support of family and friends.

“This funding is in addition to the $606 million for diagnostic imaging and the $1.4 billion invested in the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme in the past year for breast, lung and skin cancers.”

Unlike Labor, the Coalition Government is listing all drugs recommended by the independent medical experts.

The Liberal National Government’s strong economic management ensures the continued investment of record funding into vital health initiatives including drug and alcohol treatment, mental health, life-saving medicines, Medicare and hospitals.
