Golden Wattle to visit the New England Electorate in July, says Joyce

19 Jun 2015

FEDERAL Member for New England, Barnaby Joyce said the Australian Government Mobile Service Centre ‘Golden Wattle’ is heading to the New England Electorate to provide convenient, local access to essential government payments and services in early July.

The Mobile Service Centre will visit Tambar Springs, Walhallow Village - Caroona, Werris Creek and Nundle, and will offer Centrelink and Medicare payments and services including rural payments, Child Support information and hearing health checks.

The Mobile Service Centre is a travelling outreach service that helps shrink the distance between rural and regional communities and government services.

Mr Joyce said the Mobile Service Centres are important for connecting people living in rural areas with government services.

“Staff on board can help people claim the Farm Household Allowance which is available to help farmers and farm families who are experiencing financial hardship,” Mr Joyce said.

“The Farm Household Allowance can be paid for up to three years and includes a fortnightly payment to help with day-to-day household needs, and a Health Care Card for the recipient and their family.

“I encourage people to come along and visit the Mobile Service Centre while it’s in the region.”

“We’re pleased to be bringing the Mobile Service Centre ‘Golden Wattle’ to New England,” Minister for Human Services Senator the Hon Marise Payne said.

“The ‘Golden Wattle’ is a custom-built truck designed as an office so that we can travel to rural and regional communities.

“Our staff on board are specialists in rural servicing and offer information and services tailored to meet the needs of each community.

The Golden Wattle service will also visit Boggabri in the Parkes Electorate on Monday, 6 July from 9.30am to 4pm and will be parked near the Boggabri Newsagency.

The Mobile Service Centre has the same technology as any other Medicare or Centrelink Service Centre, including access to self-service facilities. It is also wheelchair accessible and has a soundproof room where staff are able to conduct free hearing health checks.

Mr Joyce said staff can help with:

rural payment entitlements for eligible farmers;
new claims for a wide range of Centrelink payments;
updating customer information;
confirming customer documents and supporting information;
information on how financial matters may impact on Centrelink payments;
payment and service options to suit individual circumstances;
non-cash Medicare transactions;
Medicare registrations;
information on Child Support payment and service options;
specialist support and referrals;
support with and access to self service facilities; and
free hearing health checks.
