Opportunity for New England RSLs to apply for surplus defence equipment: Joyce

08 May 2014

FEDERAL Member for New England Barnaby Joyce has welcomed the opportunity being offered to Returned and Services Leagues club as well as other community and heritage organisations in his electorate to apply for surplus Defence equipment.

Mr Joyce has received advice from the Department of Defence regarding its disposal process of surplus equipment which might have heritage value and may be worthy of preservation which could be sold to community and heritage organisations  by way of a Request for Offer process.

He said many of the communities throughout the electorate had items of military significance as part of their memorials to those who have served their country.

He said the opportunity offered by the Department of Defence might allow organisations to add to their collection of military memorabilia and therefore create a drawcard for enthusiasts to visit.

“Heritage and community organisations are welcome to register their interest in specific equipment by accessing the Register of Interest application at www.defence.gov.au/dda/

He said the Australian Military Sales office would notify those organisations on its record when a request for offer for the surplus heritage equipment of interest was released.
