Joyce congratulates students from

New England Electorate

FEDERAL Member for New England, Barnaby Joyce has congratulated Duval High School’s Lucy Eddy and Farrer Memorial Agricultural High School’s Ryan Hansen for their selection to participate in the 19th National Schools Constitutional Convention [NSCC].

The NSCC, which started as an initiative of the Constitutional Centenary Fund in 1995, is a three-day convention being held at Parliament House, Canberra from Wednesday, 12 March to Friday, 14 March, 2014.

Mr Joyce said about 120 senior secondary school students, most selected from feeder conventions conducted by the states and territories will represent government, independent and Catholic schools from across Australia.

“My seat of New England has tremendous ties with the birth of the Australian Federation movement in Tenterfield,” Mr Joyce said.

“So I am delighted two students from this electorate will be able to attend the convention,” he said.

He said the student delegates consider topics, which are designed to increase their interest in the operation of the Australian Constitution.

The topic for the 2014 NSCC is Australian Federalism: States' Rights and National Priorities.

Mr Joyce said while the NSCC will be held during a non-sitting week, the delegates would attend a reception hosted by the Hon Bronwyn Bishop, MP, Speaker of the House of Representatives in the main Committee Room at Parliament House.
