FEDERAL Member for New England, Barnaby Joyce said event registrations for International Day of People with Disability are now open.

Celebrated annually on 3 December, International Day of People with Disability plays an important role in promoting the inclusion of people with disability in all aspects of Australian life.

“I encourage organisations throughout the New England Electorate to organise an event that recognises the achievements and contributions of people with disability in our local area,” Mr Joyce said.

In 2013, more than 750 events were registered by businesses, community groups, sporting organisations and schools to support International Day of People with Disability in Australia.

“Events can be registered on the International Day of People with Disability website from now until 3 December,” Mr Joyce said.

“The website also includes a searchable database to help people find events in their local area.”

Mr Joyce said that International Day of People with Disability supports the Australian Government’s National Disability Strategy, which outlines a 10-year national policy framework to improve the lives of people with disability and promote opportunities for social and economic participation.

“All registered event organisers for International Day of People with Disability will receive a pack of promotional products designed to help promote and celebrate individual events,” Mr Joyce said.
