The Australian Government has delivered $80,000 towards the Werris Creek Community Shed Facility project in New England through the Community Development Grants Programme.
Assistant Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development Jamie Briggs and Federal Member for New England, Minister for Agriculture, Barnaby Joyce today announced that the funding had been delivered towards the important community project.
“The Werris Creek Community Shed Facility project will be a construction and fit out project which will be of significant benefit to the people of New England,” Mr Joyce said.
“The funding will assist in the development of a community shed, based on the very successful ‘Men’s Shed’ model.
“It will be a place for the community to learn new skills, connect with friends in a social environment and work on meaningful projects which will help local people.”
Mr Briggs said the funding was another example of the Australian Government’s commitment to creating viable local and regional economies through productive infrastructure.
“The Australian Government is committed to providing long term improvements in productive community infrastructure for regions across Australia,” Mr Briggs said.
“We are providing up to $342 million toward around 300 community projects across Australia.”
The programme is administered by the Department of Infrastructure and Regional Development which undertakes a value for money assessment of each project against the programme guidelines to ensure the efficient, effective, and economical use of taxpayers’ money.
Unlike the previous Labor Government, the Australian Government delivers on its commitments intead of just talking about them.
